Canon 60D announced and previewed.

However my real answer would be yes - they were close.

But I'd guess that would have more to do with ages and time of release

No ... It had a magnesium alloy body, which ups it my eyes ;)
Do yourself a favour and run a side-by-side comparison of the 550D and 60D at dpreview.com. There are still plenty of reasons why someone might want to pay the extra $300.

I'd rather wait for my D7000 for an extra $100, with magnesium alloy body, 100% viewfinder, great high sensitivity performance and IT'S A NIKON!

All rumours off course. We'll see in 3 weeks time.

I did a little reading yesterday and I still come to the same conclusion :/

Yes, maybe there are some people who'd pay $300 extra for a few items - but personally I'd get a 550D and put the rest towards glass. They share too many of the same specs. The one thing I do like is actually the swivel screen.

The 60D seems like a fail and it looks like a few guys may jump to Nikon after waiting for months for this. It's more a xxxD camera than a xxD camera. Considering it's an upgrade from the 50D, it lost the metal chassis, lost the microadjustments for the AF and has a slowler FPS during burst. I think I'd be happier if they called it 600D as opposed to 60D, because I've always thought of xxD cameras as semi pro which IMO, the 60D, isn't.
