On the 5D MkII I noticed it is also compatible with EF-S lenses. Interesting.

However under specifications it says:
Compatible Lenses
Canon EF lenses (35mm-equivalent focal length is approx. 1.6x the lens focal length)
Which both contradicts the above and doesnt make sense on a full frame

Something lost in translation maybe?

Looks like a good camera based on those specs. I see a number of cameras are now coming out with HD video as well. A while ago this was sacrilege to the DSLR crowd who sneered at the point and shoot crowd. A camera with video features! Get a real video camera!

One of these days it will also feature a cell phone, a street level GPS navigator, coffee maker etc.

I wonder where it will be in 10 years time?

Looking at the photo of the 5D on the cannon site it appears that it does not accept EF-S mount as it missing the white square to line up the EF-S lens. It only has the red circle for EF lenses. I also remember reading a while back that full frame cameras will never support EF-S lenses as their mirror is too big for the deeper recess of the EF-S lens.

I reckon Canon might hurry to bring out the next 1Ds Mark IV as potential 1Ds customers might purchase the 5D mark II instead of the 1Ds Mark III due to the autofocus problems on that camera.

I'll be happy with an original 5D . . . for now. :)

and there is the whole 1.6 multiplier - I think they just copied and pasted the wrong section . . . a couple times.

Come on bwana, get the Mark II :D
It's about time they released it anyway. I was wondering when it would be released.

I'll have to see what the price difference is when I buy but I'm not sure I can really justify much of an additional expense.

If I wanted to buy one I'd fly over to New York and get it there, and still save £300 over teh UK price

I wouldnt - I'd buy it online and have it sent to family in Pennsylvania thereby saving 8.375% NY sales tax :) Save a couple hundred dollars that way.
