Hi everyone,

A quick question: If I buy a lens off ebay (authorised reseller) with a 1 year international warranty, will it be covered by Canon SA?

Canon does not offer international warranties, to my knowledge. The 1 year international warranty probably means you can send it back to the seller and they will repair it or have it repaired, which doesn't even mean that they'll send it back to Canon specifically.

Thank you for the quick reply koffiejunkie.

I may have misquoted the seller. The description says; Canon USA and worldwide Warranty card?

Here's the link (scroll to the green text at the bottom of the description):

I did a bit of research and it looks like Canon do honour the warranty of a product bought in another country (with an international warranty card). However I didn't manage to find anything specific to SA.

I also had a look in the box of my speedlite that I bought recently and that also came with an international warranty card.

I think giving Canon SA a call would be my best bet.

From that page I read that the Canon warranty is for the USA. I'd be willing to bet the "international warranty card" is the shops warranty and requires you to ship the item back to them if anything was wrong with it.

To that end, I'd rather spend the extra $140 odd and get it from a well known and respected shop.

Nice lens either ways - I bought two :)

Thanks for the help. If that's the case, I find it strange that they would call it an international warranty card!

I would far rather buy locally except that it costs about 50% more. Crazy prices on lenses in SA!

Glad to know its a good lens;)

This seller maybe totally legit and above board and great on after-sales servers. I just don't know either way.
