As I have mentioned elsewhere here, I am leaving in 3 weeks for the USA. I will be buying a new Canon 7D that comes with 28-135 lens ( $ 1899.00 ). The body only, is also available for $ 200 less.

I already have a Canon EF 70 - 300 IS USM here at home for long distance shots

While I am there in the USA, what other lens would I need to buy to complete my kit ? or will the 70-300 and 28-135 cover me for most situations ? (Oh, I also have a Canon 18-55 IS, that came with my 500 D)

Should I rather buy the 7D body only, and use the $ 200 towards a better lens than the kit 28-135 ?

I understand that it depends on what I will be shooting - I need to cover a broad spectrum of shots, from macro shooting a bee hovering 50 cm away, to shooting wildlife in the distance, to shooting many portrait people and landscape shots

I am still a relative noob, so would appreciate some advice. I don't want to miss the opportunity of being in the USA, with good pricing and selection.

Thanks

Honestly I would go for the Sigma 24-70 F/2.8 HSM instead of the kit lens. You say you already have the 70-300 covered so why overlap so much.

It's a superb lens as Bwana can attest to.

I would also suggest you get a 50mm 1.8 II prime, very cheap and very good IQ.

You could sell the 28-135mm lens here in South Africa for about $500 so either get and make a quick buck on it or get a better lens like the 24-105mm f/4 (similar focal length but not necessarily the correct choice).
