Dear All,

Apologies for the VERY late notice , but we have had non-stop issues with venues for the last 4 weeks. Some of whom decided to increase their costs by 300% over the rates offered when we booked tentatively at the beginning of the year. The desperate money-grabbing around World Cup is more intense than we expected with caterers increasing costs prohibitively as well.
BUT - having said all that - we have FINALLY secured everything for this half's EOS roadshow.

We will be hosting two separate events:
On the Friday afternoon session , I will be continuing the basic photographic training I started in October. I will focus on white balance , picture styles and flash photography. I will also cover basic workflow and my colleague Abri will do a short printing basics presentation. This is a very straightforward training event with notepads and pens as handouts only.
On the Saturday morning session , we will do the traditional show with guest speakers and various products on display with loads of giveaways etc. Please note that the focus is on amateur photographers with hints and tips about getting the best out of your EOS 1000D / 450D / 500D or similar model.
Please note that there is not going to be a professional presentation at all - we will reserve that for the event later in the year.

You are more than welcome to attend both events , but please understand that if you are a professional or semi-professional photographer - the majority of the info passed on will be aimed at a lower photographic knowledge level. You will be asked what equipment you have when registering and we will give priority seating allocation to the more beginner photographers. The demand for a seat is going to be as high as usual so we will ask you to register as quickly as possible please - especially due to the short notice.
The registration tab will be going live later this afternoon on the www.canon.co.za website - I'll post a link as soon as it is up. If you have attended a show in the past - you will be already on our mailing list.

The shows will be as follows :
Cape Town ( Ratanga Junction Imax theatre ) - 7 & 8 May
Johannesburg ( Kyalami Theatre on the track ) - 14 & 15 May
Durban ( Krakatoa at Sibaya Casino ) - 21 & 22 May

Hope to see you there !

Regards

Roger Machin

yep - thanks for the PE suggestion - it is not off the radar at all , but unfortunately is VERY difficult to justify from an expense point of view - especially in the tough economical world situation right now. NB we haven't forgotten about you and we are doing our best to be back !

I will update the post as soon as the link goes live at www.canon.co.za

If Canon SA is hurting to the extent that they cant afford to add PE and other areas to their Roadshow perhaps its because people are wising up and purchasing their gear from overseas.

Why would I want to support Canon SA?

I have the same problem with them. It seems that every overseas company is seeing Africa as a place to make a quick buck.
Their excuse of low volumes of sales, etc., just doesn't explain a 100% profit margin on what is charged in shops overseas.

Canon Roadshow

Hey guys,
Sorry I've left posting this so late... but tommorow and saturday is the Amateur Canon EOS Training/Roadshow for Cape Town. Jo-Burg and Durban follow later in the month.

Join us at this year’s Amateur Canon EOS Roadshow. We will be hosting two different sessions this year and we welcome you to come to both.

Amateur Training - 14h00 to 16h00
The Friday afternoon session will be an Amateur Training session with Roger Machin, Photo Video Product Manager for Canon South Africa, who will help you get the most out of your EOS.

Amateur Roadshow - 10h00 to 13h00
Saturday morning follows our typical roadshow format with presentations by world-renowned travel photographer Andy Lund and the highly acclaimed Paul Hofman. Roger Machin will also be discussing the latest
Canon equipment hitting the market.

Both sessions will last for approximately 2-3 hours and light refreshments will be served at all events.

Only a confirmed RSVP will ensure you a seat.

I'm going to the Cape Town one so hope to see you there.

P.S. no I'm not affiliated with Canon, hell - I shoot Nikon :D:D:D

So you coming?

Do you think they'd mind if I bring my Sony? I don't have Canon...:p

I'm taking my Nikon :p

To quote an email I sent to Canon:
Hi there,

I would just like to know if I can attend the Amateur Canon EOS Training and the Amateur Canon EOS Roadshow even though I have a Nikon digital camera?

Regards,
David Ritchie

and their humorous reply :D:
Dear David,

Thank you for your mail. You may certainly register to attend the shows , but please understand that we might not confirm your seat as precedence is given to Canon users. You may also be requested to leave your camera behind when you leave ;-)

Regards

Hmmm... thinking about it. I sure would feel dof sitting there with a Sony in my hands. :(

I'm going with my Nikon :p lol
I don't think you even really use your camera, more like presentations and talks from other photographers ;)

p.s. thanks to whoever merged these threads, didn't find this one when i searched :o

Anyone go to the roadshow?
They gave everyone bags with stuff in (canon long sleeve shirt, notepad, pen, beanie). Some lucky people got a piece of paper in it with a colored number on it. I was one of those lucky people and when I went to "redeem" it they handed me an 8gb micro SD card with adapter :D Now I can take more pics.....!!!!! Thank you Canon!!! :D:D:D:D:D

I got a 4GB SD card. Pity my camera only takes CF. But anyways, I learnt a few tidbits of info from the show. So it was good to go aside from all the free stuff. Canon ROCKS!!
