The only people complaining about the RAT are morons who read the early reviews, which were done before tracking issues were sorted and base their opinions on that, instead of actually using the thing, or those who prefer a mouse that floats away when you breathe on it (it's a bit heavy even without any weights) It's a fantastic mouse, has great build quality and is the only truly ergonomic mouse out there since it adjusts to various hand sizes/grips etc. The higher palm rest should work for you from what you said. The drivers/profile setup program aren't as fancy as the Razer stuff for example but there's nothing wrong with them either. I see there are all kinds of fancy coloured versions out now but they appear to be mostly expensive gimmicks. The original black one looks the best anyways.
The Razer Mamba is also a good option but became insanely expensive recently, probably due to all the good press it's been getting. Quite good for big hands and feels way better built than most other Razer products which tend to feel cheap and light. It used to be about R800-900 but is now like R1200 I think.
You won't like the G9x, that's for either claw grip or tiny, doll-like hands. The G500 seems comfortable, but I haven't really used it, just saw it in shops. Many people here are quite happy with theirs and it's cheaper than the alternatives.
