I can't connect right now and technical support tells me its a national authentication problem. I have no way of checking and noticeboard.saix.net suggests it should be limited to Rosebank, which shouldn't affect me in Cape Town. Anyhow time will tell.

But so now I'm connected via my old dial-up account which I kept on for precisely this reason. Wouldn't it make sense for Telkom Internet to let us dial-up with our ADSL account details (assuming one's using Telkom as ISP)? It seems fair, it's not like I'm gonna use it unless I have to...

they have poor authentication system if you haven't noticed!
auth system is a bit improved now.
when i started using ADSL service in Aug 2002, i had to call 0800375375 few times a day!
problem was my user ID hanging on their system if i disconnect improperly,
and they had to release my user ID or something manually.

SEANL As far as i know and tested myself i am able to log into the net using my Telkom ADSL username and password through normal analogue dialup without any problems...dialing the number 0860007249 !!!!
Entering the entire username as in your adsl connection

Try that and see

Hmmm, I tried that. But then this was whilst ADSL authentication was down, so I guess that might have affected dial-up access too...
