I had a previous post about not being able to make a temporary connection to the internet here:

Turns out the issue is when the Win7 laptop is connected via a switch, it cant see the network. If I connect it directly to the wall-mounted network point, it works perfectly.
My setup is a follows:
Wall-mounted network point > 24-port Mecer switch > Win7 desktop
I use the switch to connect laptops to the network for basic setups/troubleshooting. Makes life easier instead of having to hunt for a spare network point in the office or disconnect the cat5 cable from PC. This has worked fine in the past for all other laptops. It is an old switch, but it works fine and serves the purpose. I have tried swopping cat5 cables as well.
My reasoning is that if this setup works fine for my desktop, it should work fine for the laptop. I have even connected the laptop to the same port on the switch that the desktop is connected to.
Any reason what could be preventing the laptop from seeing the network?
Tried doing an internet search and checking various settings, but no luck. It's a Gigabyte i1520M laptop, with Win7 Pro 64 bit.
Any help will be much appreciated!
