I recently noticed that I can't change the ID3 tags of my MP3's.
When I right click an MP3 file in explorer and select Properties -> Summary -> Advanced it just displays Track Number, Title and Comments and not the other options that it usually does. It also doesn't show the album name when the tile view is selected like it usually does.

All the MP3's on all my hard drives are not allowing me to change this and I also can't add album covers to my albums in Winamp (5.541)

Are the files maybe set to read only?

Can you change the info in Winamp?

Did you click the advanced button?

Have you tried 3rd Party Software?

Are you still experiencing a problem?

Yes, but I can't embed album art into MP3 files in Winamp anymore.
Yes, I clicked the advanced button.
I tried Songbird and it allows me to edit the MP3 metadata and embed album art into MP3 files.
Yes, I am still experiencing the problem after a fresh OS re-install.

try:
http://www.ultratagger.com/

then click on any mp3 file and see what version of ID3 tag you have.

If it is version 2.4, then we have found your problem.
Lemme know if this is the case, and I'll post instructions on how to fix it if it is...

It says version 1.1 for V1 and 2.4 for V2...

download mp3tag - http://www.mp3tag.de/en/download.html

Then do as follows:
1. Preferences > Tags > Mpeg > Read all/Write Id3v2.3 (and Id3v1)
2. Load files
3. Select all (Ctrl+A)
4. Cut Tags (Ctrl+X)
5. Paste Tags (Ctrl+V)

This should solve the problem.
Lemme know if it does!

So I found this:
Windows Explorer and Windows Media player cannot handle id3v2 version 2.4 tags in any version, up to and including Windows 7/Windows Media Player 12. Windows can understand id3v2 up to and including version 2.3.
on WikiPedia.

Thought they would at least care to update their crappy built-in software before releasing another major version of their OS, sheish

Doesn't help much if my current media player, Songbird, only saves to ID3V2.4 :(
