Can't ping router from external location but it is connected

Hey there

As the heading says, i can't ping the router.
Its a billion router from MWEB and in the office, the people there can surf and get emails but when i try to ping the router from home i get timed out response. I have set the routers firewall to low and still nothing.

I want to be able to VNC from home to the office, i have forwarded the required ports and set up dyndns.

Any ideas please would be most welcome.

routers don't allow incoming connections unless port forwarding is set up.

Thanks for the reply, at the moment i just want to be able to ping the router from an external location any ideas as to why i can't get a response.

When i set up VNC i will forward the ports.

If that doesn't work, then check if icmp ping is enabled or not.

I am pinging the public adress i think (41.*.*.*) i checked on the router and i is set to enable reply to ping.

is the router in bridged mode or not?

does the router initiates the connection? or do you use one of your computers to connect?

The router is not in bridged mode and it also initiates the connection, i also phoned MEWB and they couldn't ping it either seems strange.

You have to distinguish between the internal network and the connection to the web. I'd assume that setting is only for the internal network (Either 196.*** or 10.***).

Sounds like either the firewall on the router or the firewall on the PC is the problem. (Check Windows Firewall too.)

There is a setting under the Firewall option to block incoming ICMP packets. (BLOCK WAN REQUEST) Disable this option...

Might help as well.

Or turn of the firewall and check again, because your ICMP packets are being blocked in the firewall (Packet Filtering) as well.
