So, being my SO's unofficial (meaning don't get paid) IT support for her business, I received a frantic call yesterday that her email isn't working. It stopped working on Friday as well, but worked fine over the weekend.

So I logged a call with my hosting company. It seems that the problem was solved their side on Friday, but again, Monday, no email. And here is where it starts getting interesting:

We started testing, running ping / traceroute to her mail server. After a certain jump, it starts timing out. This is on her ADSL line. We retested it on her MTN data, same problem. I tested it via my work connection and Vodacom, I could access everything, her email, cPanel, billing system of the host. No problem my side. I decided to play around when I got back home, and suddenly, everything work. This morning, it did exactly the same again. Can't access via the ADSL line. I took a wild shot and started suspecting the router. I reset the router, and suddenly it worked again. The only thing I didn't check was if I received a new IP address (which might have helped trying to find the problem)

A bit more detail:

1. My ADSL ISP: Telkom
2. Router: DLink-2750 firmware 1.70 (Telkom one)
3. Host: webhostingzone.co.za

I'm done to the following possible problems:

1. ISP routing problem
2. Router problem, including firewall or the router is reaching end of its life
3. Host firewall

I nearly forgot, the hop where the traceroute starts failing was at diamatrix.co.za

Any ideas on what the problem may be?
