Hi all,

I'm in a bit of a predicament, and have exhausted my limited knowledge of networks to try and fix it. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I have the following setup:

1 x D-Link ADSL Router (DSL-2750U) - Connected to internet & a few PC's/cell phones. DHCP is active.
1 x Microserver - Connected to ADSL Router with Ethernet cable. Running Windows 7. Set to static IP, but have tried automatic too.
2 x Laptops - Connected to ADSL Router using WiFi. Both running Windows 10. Set to automatic IP's.
2 x Cell Phones - Connected to ADSL Router using WiFi.

  • Internet works on all devices, whether using WiFi or Ethernet.
  • When using Ethernet cables on PC's, there is no issue finding/browsing the other PC's on the network.
  • When using WiFi, I can't find any other PC's on the network, although internet still works.
  • All IP's are in the same IP range as the router (192.168.1.xxx), whether connected with WiFi or Ethernet.
  • The laptops that can't view other PC's/each other over WiFi on this network, both work 100% with WiFi on my work's network (which has a very similar setup as my home).

Router IP: 192.168.1.1 (DHCP Range: 192.168.1.50 - 192.168.1.254)

Microserver IP: 192.168.1.2 (Static, using cable)
Microserver Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Microserver Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1

Laptop IP: 192.168.1.51 (Automatic, using WiFi)
Laptop Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Laptop Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1

Please let me know if I must provide any more information.

Thanks in advance.

Is network discovery turned on on all PC's?

Are you on the "home network" profile?

Check whether Ethernet to Wireless Blocking is enabled under Advanced Wireless settings. If yes, disable it.

Network discovery is on on all PC's (for home/work, and public, whilst testing).
Microserver is on "Home network".
Laptop is on "Private network". I can't seem to change this - I'm not sure it's different in Windows 10 vs Windows 7, as with the microserver.

Can the devices ping each other via command prompt/terminal?

On my 2750U this option is caled "User isolation" and is found under the SSID settings in Advanced -> Wireless Settings -> Advanced Settings. It should be off if you want a wifi connected device to see other devices on the network.

I gave up on my 2750U as I found it to be not very reliable, particularly when it comes to wifi networking. I now use it purely as an ADSL modem with a Mikrotik router doing the clever stuff.

Please don't tell me my new router is going to be crap! Haha.

I took a look, and User Isolation was already disabled.

So... I've tried all of the above suggestions, and everything was as it should be. Still no luck in finding any other PC's over WiFi.

Does anyone have any other suggestions, please?

Possible HomeGroup issue. Leave the homegroup and recreate while on WIFI.

Thanks everyone for your advice.

Turns out it was the router, for what reason, I do not know.

All the settings looked correct, I tried all of the above tips, and updated the firmware, with no luck. Finally, I got hold of another brand router, and it worked first time, without any issues.
