Hi there all,

I'm trying to help someone ge their newly installed ADSL up and running, but we can't seem to send large packets out. :-(

I've tried sending emails with attachments - anything over a ~100K payload won't send. I've tried uploading via FTP to my personal storage - same story - the upload fails inside of a few seconds (stops uploading, then times out).

The workstation in question uses a Telkom ethernet router (the standard 4-port router, Marconi I presume), a RealTek 8139C card with the latest drivers for the card. The modem is in bridge mode and we're using the Polyglot software from Telkom.

I have tried setting a string "MaxMTU" in the \HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Class\NetTrans and setting it to "1400". I've tried this with only the key sent displaying the IP address of the card, later on I set this value for all subkeys of NetTrans. I still can't sent out traffic.

Any suggestions to help me with this problem - they can't even send email at this stage! :-(

Thank you

2 things..

1 Email Timeout
Your email server timeout in the application might be set too short, yes i know its adsl but yah try setting it higher else the person recieving email gets basically spammed with you message cause your email software does not wait for the ack that the packet is sent/came too late.

2 Why are you using PPPoE ?
I try and avoid it as much as possible since it gives all sort of hassles. hrm you have a netowrk card and router so why not use the router as a gateway, unless you need an internet ip on your pc i'd sugest changing the connection that way. Easy to set up for all O/S except perhaps win98 occationally since its horrible to work with. You can either phone Telkom ADSL support (0800 375 375) and ask them to help you set it up(if win98 ask if the guy/gal knows how to do it or find someone who can in the case of win98/mac!) or if you want i'll tell you what to do but its easier to do with someone on the line :D .
