Hi
Maybe someone can shed some light, I have a couple of mail clients that use telkom as their service provider, and they are all unable to send directly thru their own mail server, contiously coming up with weird errors. If I test those exact details from IS accounts, I have no problems at all.
Is this someone else is also having problems with?

What do you mean by their own mail server? The clients' own mail servers or Telkom Internet's. What is the address you are relaying through? If you are trying to relay through IS while connected to TI - I am afraid that will fail without some kind of authentication - and vice versa.

the clients own mail server, which is in the States. There is no relaying involved, they auth. to their mail server and send that way. What I mean is that when they login with IS account on their dsl, they can send thru their own mail server, but not when logged in with telkom account, hope I made it a bit clearer. I know I can use telkom smtp server, but seeing as most Telkom adsl ip ranges are blackliste, it is not really gonna help them much, as most of the mails, when thru telkom smtp, get bounced back as unsolicited

Clear as mud ;) Ok. let me get this straight. The log in (DSL) with IS and they can send mail through their own server (which is in the states) but not when they log in with TI account?

If they are configured to use Auth, then there should be no reason why this does not work. Can they telnet to the server on port 25 when connected on the TI account? If the can, then there is a problem with relaying rules or access lists on their own server. If they can't then there is a network device prohibiting the connection. I doubt it would be SAIX blocking all port 25 traffic, so maybe there is a device on the other side that is blocking the connection?

Yup, not on TI, but no issues IS. And mail sending thru TI was fine up until Monday, when it stopped working.
I can also not see that Telkom would be stopping it, but they have been known to do weirder things. Anyway, I can telnet to port 25, although I have not tried to send like that. I will, then will let you know
I manage the mail server, and I have put no restrictions of any kind on the server, ACL, blocking etc....this is weird man

I host my clients and my own mail servers in the states and I use a Telkom 384 line in SA with a SAIX a/c. I can send mail using the saix SMTP server and my own overseas SMTP server without issue.

Those weird errors you are referring to, could you be a bit more specific / provide some of those messages ?

There are enough of us rocket scientists on this forum who would be able to offers advice once we see the messages you are referring to.

LOL, ok will do, will get some errors, they seem to vary with different error number, will post once i have a few. thanks for the replies so far
