Hi guys,
I have 6GB of cap... that normally last the month and very rarely I have to buy an extra GB. This month on the 17th we hit our cap!! So that is half way through the month and it is gone... I have bought another 2 GB after that which were also finished in like 2 days... I have been playing a lot LESS games online and downloading the same/less as every other month. I then realized that my wireless network had become un-secure for some reason so I figured that I am using a Belkin N1 router which pushes signal super far so maybe a lucky neighbor was using our internet ... so I secured it with a password and bought more cap... Last night I got capped again and I had barely been home which means someone outside of my residents is using my line! But I find that hard to believe as I now have a secured line(128-bit)! So I want to get some application that monitors the amount of CAP my PC is using to see if is external... and maybe an app that can detect where/what is being downloaded.

Is there such a thing? Please tell me what so I can install it immediately!!
Also if you have any suggestions on how to secure the network even more, it would be great.

Thanks in advance

You can download wireshark its free, its a packet sniffer it will show you what packets are being sent and recieved, maybe its just a virus or malware that is sending and recieving unwanted packets..

Something that may be more suitable is an app like DUMeter or BWMeter which should show you how much your PC is doing in specific periods etc. I won't tell you what is causing it but will enable you to see if it is actually your PC.
Another suggestion is maybe (if your router supports it) is to add your ethernet address to any MAC address filtering list.

@Darshur:Thanks, Scanned for viruses a few times.
@MikeCTZA: Thanks, I have a Telkom(main) router so I dont think it will support it.

Try:

http://userstats.adsl.saix.net/

Note your sessions and ip addresses, and look for other sessions with different ip's. This will show if others have your login details.

Got any P2P stuff active by any chance? Bit Torrent / limewire?

You do not have a secured line. Impossible.

Firstly, change your ADSL account's username & password asap! Who is your ISP? Ask them to lock your account to your DSLAM port. Then buy some cap. Reset the router and turn on all the PCs. Check what WAN/LAN light on the router keeps flashing like mad - that would be the PC eating the cap. On the PC go to start > run > cmd > netstat -b. It will show you what process is connected to the internet and guzzling the bandwidth. Kill the network and sort that PC out. If no LAN light on the router is going like mad, someone probably nicked your account details and was abusing it (they can't anymore as we just locked your account to your line) or a resident at your home who was eating bandwidth but just ain't there to do so while you are staring at the router.

Make sure you use WPA protection on your Wireless with a strong password, and not just 12345678. Check your usage records to check who used your account from a foreign line - check that the line port stays constant and is yours. Otherwise if you see alien ports using your account, search for Bandwidth theft on the forum to see how to report this to the SAPD.

Good Luck!
