Capable of 8192 . Syncing at 4096. Next Steps ?

Hi,

Inherited a nice new sx763 router (adsl 2+ and all that), router says that the line is CAPABLE of 8192, but syncing at 4096.

I have called Telkom ( i live in Lonehill, Sandton 011 465), they told me that yes my exchange has been upgraded (as i can tell from the modem), but that they " haven't flicked the switch to enable the line-speed"

What does this mean, if the modem is detecting a capable line speed of 8192, what is preventing it from syncing at this speed? Am i being retarded and i should be using a capped product to test the speed with, or is it really the fact that a switch has not been flicked at the exchange to enable the speeds?

If it is indeed the switch scenario, how would i go about fast-tracking the flicking, so that i can get the speed?

I would hate to be pedantic, but this information IS IN THE OP.

The line is CAPABLE of 8192 ALREADY, indicating it HAS been upgraded.
 
This might be a dumb question but how do u determine the line is "Capable of 8192" if you only sync'ing at 4096?

My line says it syncs at 10008, only info my router gives me.

Nope I don't think you're right at all. The "Capable" line speed is being calculated by the modem based on the line quality that it's seeing. It has nothing to do with the Telkom upgrade being done. I've had a D-Link modem for a few months now and my "capable" speed is somewhere in the 12mb region based on my current line quality.

It has NOTHING to do with your exchange or the Telkom upgrade project. It is simply a bit of information given by the modem.
 
Yup @ what Mr Anderson said. Your exchange isn't allowing you to sync at higher than 4Mbps. All you can do is to wait till it gets upgraded.
