Hey. Without getting into all the technicalities, which is better?

i'd vote Capacative, light finger touch is the easiest and scratchless

Yeah Id go with resistive like on the N97. I have compared my N97 with my mates Iphone and in terms of responsiveness to touch and there is really very little if no difference at all. And yes, using a glove with the resistive screen works whereas a capacitive doesn't.
I would say though that in direct sunlight a capacitive screen might be more visible.....i cant talk from experience here though.

What about software compatibility? I hear that any program that requires stylus input won't work with capacitative - true?

The thing is, capacitive uses fingers, resistive uses both a stylus and a finger. But capacitives require less precision when pressing a key etc. The thing that bugs me tho is this: symbian and android are getting phones with capacitive screens. Htc hero, nokia x6 and even winmo is getting one with the htc hd 2. But since its not standard on all phones on there operating systems, and features like multi touch etc are not the same on all models, the app makers cant give you standardised apps that take full advantage of there features. On the iphone, all apps use the same screen features, regardless of the model. This to me is the biggest advantage of the iphone over the competition. The apps just work, and work well.
