I noticed on the weekend that my phone was showing cell C, 3G, full bars, and i think a little 'not connected' symbol under the 3G. That's a new one for Cell C, seen it before on Vodacom with Vodacom SIM card. Can't make calls. Could be a Nokia bug or feature, showing good signal but not connected for some reason.

What phone do you have? Do you know if it can do 3G @ 900MHz?

nokia e63. yes it can do 3G 900Mhz. At the time it was set for automatic operator selection, GSM/UMTS, so it had decided upon Cell C UMTS by itself.

But like I said, I have often noticed (with a Vodacom SIM in a different Nokia phone), full signal 3G but not able to make calls, so maybe this is more about the Nokia software than anything else.

Or it could have been roaming on Vodacom. I was under the impression that only the CellC sims sold as part of the data promotion had access to CellCs 3G network?

I never had access to the network. Could not make or receive calls or data. But phone was showing full bars, 3G, Operator Cell C.

I also had the same yesterday with my E63, said 3g but then a message popped up saying SIM card registration failed. I switched the phone off and then back on and the 3g was gone.

I have been able to see the CellC 3G network in Cape Town since July already but have never been able to log on. This is both with my Samsung Galaxy S and my ZTE K3565. In fact it was giving me hell because my phone tried to register on the 3G network everytime I switched it on or it lost coverage after which I was unable to go back to GSM for 5-10 minutes. Switching to GSM mode only on the phone solved the problem...

This is Southern Suburbs by the way, signal is there, signal is strong but it is not possible to register on the network...
