Cape Town CBD: ADSL down?

Hi,

Does anyone know if ADSL in CT CBD is down?

I'm in the southern suburbs and I have a remote server in the CBD/Greenpoint area and I can't reach the server. Been down since 12h10.

SAIX notices at http://www.axxess.co.za/network.php (Thanks Axxess!) gives nothing.

yah i read somewhere about eskom cutting power in 1hour rotations for certain area's cause koeberg is still down and there is not enough power.

The rest of Africa utilises the load sharing method so we are slowly becoming like the rest of Africa, so go out and buy a backup generator and make sure it works as a radio station backup generator failed. Routine maintenance ?

IT companies in Zimbabwe have backup jennies as part of their price lists.
Zambia is using loadsharing alot with power down 2-3 hrs a day.

No electricity lost productivity versus the cost of a backup generator

Thanks. As i was reading that yesterday, my power went off as well :rolleyes:

The server + ADSL router does have a UPS though - will a power cut effect the exchanges as well? I know telephone lines would work but what about the DSLAM?
 
That should not effect the exchange as they have backup generator, I doubt very the smaller DLU exchanges do ie Vicbay 044-889xxxx exchange. small box next to the N2 national road (opposite VicBay turnoff) . I remember the old PE Central 2 (two-motion selector) exchange in the old days 1990's had a V16 diesel engine driving a generator as the exchanges run off 52v DC

Any ideas who sells 10-15 kVA diesel alternators as we shut shop yesterday, imagine the business lost due to no power

Required with full anti-radiation suite and instruction manual in Russian :)
