Since moving to this area I've had endless issues with my connection. I'm on the Tableview exchange (believe it's called South Road).
From October-November last year I was on Openweb's Gold Leon 4 Mbps Uncapped package. They tried swapping me through about a dozen routing profiles but it just seemed to get worse each time.
In November I switched to Afrihost 4 Mbps Uncapped and it seemed to run somewhat better until the start of the year. In March it went to hell, but I waited patiently in the hope that the upgrade they were doing would fix the issue. That eventually happened last month, but it barely improved.
I had about a week of decent internet recently, but for the last two days I'm back to the usual.
My download rate is very erratic, usually running at something below about 15 KBps, before picking to something over 200 KBps somewhere between 2 AM and 7 AM on most days. Quite often it stays below 15 KBps 24 hours a day.
The biggest issue however is the constant disconnects. Websites timeout continually, games drop connection and doing server backups is impossible for days at a time. It's worst during the day, but often remains unusable well after midnight.
Today I tried side-grading to Afrihost's Business 2 Mbps Uncapped in the hope that my browsing would at least stabilize, but I can't see any difference at all.
I don't know if my issues are related to ISP over-shaping, exchange congestion or something else I hadn't considered. I did have a Telkom technician around a month ago and he found no issues with my line at all. When I asked him about exchange congestion he mumbled something about not being knowledgeable about dsl and said he would get another technician to contact me. Obviously I've not heard back.
All I require is a stable connection, 400-500 GB/month, about 4 Mbps and I have a max budget of about R1200 including line rental.
So what are my options? Do I have any options? A new ISP? Wallow in despair?
Any advice, particularly from anyone from the same area/exchange, would be greatly appreciated.
