I see the head honchos at Iburst finally finished econonomics one-o-one and figured out that when demand is bigger than supply, you actually HAVE to do something about it!

That where this R350 mil upgrade is coming from...and they said nothing was wrong..now their trying to relieve traffic..maybe then I can get like 5kb dwn and 1kb upl on torrents (being optimistic)

Lets just hope the bozos put the stations in the right places and not in zeerust or hermanus (no offense to both), because we need them HERE in GP!!

Idiot Blubbering Untrustworthy Retard Silly Tool
Hows that for an acronym??

from what i have read the torrent situation is not a capacity issue (per se) but a policy issue from their side. So no matter how many stations are put up the P2P/torrent situation is unlikely to remain changed.

policy

The policy changed when demand exceeded supply. At the start. torrents ran at between 90kbs - 150kbs...and as more people joined, they decided to brutally shape torrents as to choke the living hell out of it!

So maybe I'm putting 1 and 1 together and getting 11, but shouldnt the situation return to normal (ie. not shaping torrents so stricktly) as the service capacity improves??

Any ideas?

So are they shaping G9 as well because as far as I know that's the only account that should be doing full speed?

I'm on 9G and during OH's is's crawling but picks up AH's - not sure if it's network congestion, but knowing iBurst i'd say it's scheduled shaping for sure - also they are making use of IS and not Verizon at present and IS shapes....

I thought IS used to be unshaped even though you got mediocore speeds on P2P anway... I guess they just go ahead and call it shaped thesedays.

Anyway it's not that important, because iBurst could always get it right to have the 9G accounts unshaped and leave the rest of us shaped before. So they changed something themselves.

Who the hell has R1000 + for an account thats capped and goes through more ups and down than a pregnant woman??? (except who.is.michael).

Then rather go for a 384kb adsl option?? It may be a bit slower (at this rate it seems to be faster!!), but at least its stable and UNCAPPED!! As far as I know Openweb does not shape torrents as well....I say kudos to them...

So it boils down to pay up or get ur 2kbs torrent on....

The <R1000 uncapped ADSL options go through IS, which also has ups and downs in terms of performance.

Torrents aren't even allowed on those packages though.. I don't think any P2P is, except for the IS news server. They keep coming up with new ideas though, like P2P after midnight etc..

Which is like saying you can watch dstv, but after midnight, when everyone is sleeping....

Correct me if I'm wrong, but whats the use then, because sometimes a torrent has 2000+ seeds and the next day it has 700 seeds...my point is that when you need to download, you need to download immediatly, before the good stuff is gone.

I don't remember signing the "after midnight" clause...Iburst lawyers..shame on you!

hehe no no, I was talking about the uncapped ADSL option. iBurst is meant to be unshaped all the time on the 9G accounts.

It is a bit different to DSTV, because you don't sit and watch your download going (well sometimes I do :() but you can just line them up and then go to sleep hoping they will be finished in the morning.. obviously not ideal though.

Ive tried that on a 5meg song i was getting off torrents, the download finished but it uploaded 150megs :( ....

Oh yes, terrible idea for torrents of course, I don't use them much because of that.

Well if you are uncapped with the ADSL option then it doesn't matter really.

you downloaded a 5meg song overnight using torrents? if so i hope that has been a learning experience for you.

When downloading torrents overnight, set the max upload limit to about 5kbs...this usually helps things not to boil over! (Get a torrent client with this feature, because clients like Arctictorrent doesn't have this feature).

Small files tend to upload more, because of the seed/download ratio. Rather download the song (you not me) with something like www.piolet.com (again helping)....Its sort of like going to musica and buying a cd single (not sure it exist anymore but you get the point)..but for free...for your own use (etc)

Recommend www.bitlord.com as a torrent client.(not publicity, merely helping users to get a better downloading experience).

I hope you learned a lesson....

surely most songs can be found using something like frostwire

Frostwire?

I know limewire...never heard about frostwire...will check into it though and so on...
