Yes and it's all the reserve bank's fault. We need some new leadership in this country as they're screwing up every sector of the country. I earn less interest now than 4 years ago despite having more than double the money in the account. It has just accrued to me..
If I am getting 5% PA - I am losing money as inflation is higher than that?
I hate it when banks try and tell us how we can spend our money. This is why I left FNB. Now I see Capitec is first to offer a debit card. The one thing that always frustrated me the most was that I ALWAYS had to go into the bank atleast once a month to ask them to increase my Electronic Payment Limit (I might be getting the term wrong, but the meaning should still be clear) from R0 to something usable. Their retort to the question 'why can't you set my limit to a permanent value?' was: 'You can't support the payments because you don't earn a salary.'
This was in spite of me always having MORE money in my account than the monthly limit that I would walk-in to request. This left a bad taste in my mouth and was the main reason behind my big move.
