The other 3 main banks don;t have much going for them, so don't bother us about them.

This thread is for the FNB and Capitec customers to fight it out.

I don't want to fight it out myself, I am a customer of both, but FNB is not perfect, neither is Capitec (but they are a bit perfecter), I will not easily be convinced to close either, as long as FNB has ebucks where my earn exceeds my costs, that is.

In fairness Capitec doesn’t deliver cards at all from what I remember.

It is a third party doing delivery as well.

No they don't, but then again they don't advertise that they do.

Well, hopefully one day they will ring me up "Sir, 3rd party says they cannot deliver it to you, blah blah, lets sort it out", since their competent systems would show they have not received my KYC documents from the 3rd party, which means it was not delivered.

Nope, I answered a guy to help him better understand ebucks and CC:

Well, just put in over R2500 (or all your normal budgeted swiping spend) and swipe away. Swiping with just the one card (put the cheque card in a more difficult to get to place in wallet?)

I get my salary in Capitec, then transfer my budgeted swiping spend and FNB fees and R260 for linked savings pocket over to Gold Cheque, then using the app I transfer my swiping spend into my Gold Credit (more than R2500 swiping, so earn a level there) and R260 into the linked savings pocket (those 2 app transfers earn me a level, and hopefully the R260 into linked savings pocket will too) and leave the rest for the fee on the Gold Cheque.

Remind me again why you have a Capitec account at all?

blah blah blah a bit and then, I try to get it on track, blah blah some more and then again I try to get it back on track:

Capitec account is not a cheque account, can best be compared to an FNB Easy Account and only has an R5.50pm account fee. Transaction costs is Pay As You Go, about R60pm for me in total in fees, but get about R20 back in interest. My main transaction cost is the 10 debit orders (R35 in cost, R3.50 each). 5 of the debit orders are for investments and savings, I might move these discretionary debit orders over to FNB Cheque account next month. My 1 debit order will end when I settle the car soon, so then just 4 debit orders.

For the R5.50pm fee on your main account you get four sub accounts for free that you can activate, with their own account numbers, that you can name whatever you want.

But back to ebucks...

Capitec is very secure, and competent. Sends SMSs when you need to FICA again,

To quote:

As per above, FNB doesn't seem totally competent. And then there is the issue of how long they took to fix the ebucks earn/linked savings pocket website mistake after I had reported it half a month ago...

Lets not turn this into a FNB vs Capitec thing, this is a ebucks thread and ebucks work for me... for now.

SauRoNZA started it.

SauRoNZA started it.

To be fair it was a discussion and ever a fight so I’m sorry you see it that way.

And I hate the fact that threads can’t just be organic and dynamic when reasonably on topic.

Anyway it’s long since over so this thread is pointless and nothing but uncalled for drama now.

Capitec don't need to deliver your card at all anyway, they print and give it to you there and then.

Which is why it has the pitfalls of not working online or internationally out of the box and is in fact less secure.

Good grief. It's like the toyota HIlux vs Ford Ranger debate just with banks.
Pffft

But then again, you can't open an account online with Capitec, you do have to go into a branch. Not saying it's a good or bad thing, just the facts.

I couldn't pay Home Affairs online for my smart card appointment with my Capitec account or my FNB Credit Card, so I opened a FNB Easy account online and a few seconds later I could pay them by authorizing the transaction on the efiling section (which Capitec don't have) of the Easy account

Not a fight fight :p. But a distraction from what should be going on in that thread.

Ja but the printing can fade over time. Fnb card is embossed.

I like that the Capitec card shows the account number though.

Okay, as long as we have that understanding.

That sounds less secure, in my opinion.

Less secure as relates to the card standard. Basically anyone can print one and the card itself is of a lower VISA/MasterCard standard missing some features for having been printed there and then.

Possibly also why they don’t have a credit card function as those have to be done off site.

FNB cards obviously have 3D secure and other features enabled by default for online transaction approval.

Just as an example my FNB card has never been defrauded in more than three years now.

My Virgin card has never once expired because it would be defrauded every time before that happens.

Sure that’s no reflection on Capitec as it’s an ABSA problem, but just illustrating I’ve not had security issues with my FNB cards and I’ve had 7 different by now across cheque and credit.

In fairness I also never had problems with Nedbank but basically never used it online.

Which could be why the perception is that Capitec has less security drama as it doesn’t work online by default and therefore isn’t open to that point of assault.

****

Just to clarify my Virgin card has never been outside of my possession either and in fact don’t even carry it on me most of the time. Only ever used it for online purchases, specifically to protect my cheque account.

No that's just people that didn't enable 3d secure at the branch. Not sure why your card number being embossed or not will have anything to do with it. Seems Capitec is also cheaper internationally.

Yeah for the fingerprint authentication. I don't mind going in every few years we have 4 branches here anyway and I don't need to wait a month for my card to be delivered. Capitec don't support the whole HOA at the branch thing so that's probably why it failed. I understand their reasoning and just paid mine at the HOA.

The more I hear about having to do stuff at the branch the more horrified I am by Capitec.

Sorry, but that’s a major failure for customer service in my book.

Who doesn't have a credit card function?
