Good morning all.

I am looking to dump my telkom 2 meg uncapped adsl , in favor of a 4 meg capped setup. I have read lots about VOX and the fat pipe, any users that can confirm good service and a good product? I doubt there are isps that will give out guest accounts for people to burn and to test.

I dont do p2p , gaming and lots of youtube and video streaming , especially sports, we are currently four users , everything from steam TF2 to my little pony and friends. 100 gig should be more than enough and R189 seems to be a good price.

Unless you guys can provide me with alternatives and any other information. I read that Vox had some outage last night , i wont hold something like that against them. Are there ISP's that one should avoid like the plague? If so who are they and are costs or service their downfall?

Thanks

Good Morning Kabal, we offer a 100GB capped package at a cost of R199.00. The package is actually 100GB + 100GB night time data, which gives you access to 200GB

We do not have test packages for our capped products, however we do offer a 4Mbps uncapped trial.

have a look at the following link (for new clients only):

https://www.mweb.co.za/internet-connection/adsl/uncapped-adsl/4mbps-uncapped-free-trial.aspx

Alternatively, you can upgrade the package you are currently on to the higher capped package to test.

Try Afrihost free account and see how it performs.

Avoid MWEB like the plague. They have really left a bad taste in my mouth.

I can confirm Vox is great, the outage the other night and the DNS issue last night was the first time I've had a issue with Vox this year. I've been with Vox for around three years now I don't plan on moving anytime soon.

Afrihost have free accounts ? I think i have a 1 gig free accounts , but trust me on a 4 meg line that wont last very long lol!! I am going to try the mweb 7 days free account , that i can at least have time playing with especially gaming and youtube , if someone knows of how to get a free account and from whom please let me know .

All of the free accounts are normally 1gb test accounts. This allows to test latency and reliability. Its not meant for downloads.

As far as Mweb goes, I will 2nd DERoestorf's opinion. Mweb has left a VERY bitter taste in my mouth. I used to be a big fan when they originally launched uncapped. But the service became unusable in the years after. Due to the way they handled my cancellation, I would not consider using them again.

If you're after the best possible bandwidth, I know CrystalWeb has been bragging a lot about their latency. I have read a lot of positive feedback regarding the quality of their service. I am considering switching to CW from Vox due to the poor performance of the Vox network over the last few weeks.

I have been doing some testing . Mweb has high latency even locally. 92ms on speedtest to bloemfontein. Telkom gives a 29ms. downloads , mweb is not stable , telkom gives around 440 kb/s then after about 10 meg it drops to 161 kb/s.

Would love to try Vox and the fat pipe , afrihost, not sure if a gig is enough but will test as much as i can , crystal web , have not heard much about them , do they also have free accounts? Must say it is great streaming youtube at 1080 p but damn it will eat up data.

Thanks

I'm sure if you phone the companies they will give you a test account.

Vox is a great company but their support is average and they have had a few instances of downtime which infuriates me, only because we have them at work and you cant get anything done during their outages.

Axxess has been the best ISP I have been with from support to gaming to streaming. I have been with them a year and haven't had one day of slow speeds, disconnects or high pings. I'm not a fan of their uncapped accounts but their capped account has been great. I have seen many people complain about them but my account has been immune to everything posted.
