Hi everyone,

First up, let me just say that we do not have Fibre in my area yet, otherwise I would have gone for that.

I want to get a decent ADSL line for our home, we will use it for general day to day stuff like Facebook, Youtube Videos and Showmax.

Do I need to get like a 10Mbps line or should I look at getting like a 300Gb capped line, not sure if the data will be enough. Also don't know what speeds you get on Capped packages, they don't say...

ANY help will be appreciated.

I have an uncapped 10MB Telkom home unlimited package that serves our four person household well. We stream a lot. Our monthly peak time average sits between 300 and 400gb.

In my experience between myself and my partner we watch HD 720p content me watching every day and both of us extensively watching over the weekend; we consume about 100gb per month I would recommend a 10Mbps line given that HD or Full HD (here comes the math) can require anywhere between 337Kbps and 759Kbps depending on the content meaning between 2 people watching simultaneously 10Mbps would be a minimum. As far as data Capped or Uncapped look at the AUP of the ISP; you'd need between 100-200gb data at 10Mbps to watch 5 episodes per day every day each simultaneously for 30days and if they throttle you after 100gb which most Uncapped ISP accounts do then you'd be better off opting for a Capped account in the 100-200gb range or a Premium Uncapped account which could cost more, but anything to keep off the couch :)
