Hi All

Just a quick question, ANyone here on Telkom moved from a Capped to Uncapped and what was your decrease in line speed. I am on a 10Mbps line that's downloading around 13Mbps on a capped account 100GB thinking of moving over to uncapped on the 10Mbps line. Whats your thoughts? I am afraid they might drop my speed by a lot.

If your line is syncing higher than 10mbps capped will be faster as the line will run at sync speed. 10mbps uncapped will be limited to true 10mbps without line overheads coming into play.

That's cool 10Mbps is not bad at all, any idea whats the FUP on Telkom uncapped?

I've done > 500GB without being throttled but that was before the new FUP levels were introduced last month. I've now cancelled my uncapped and rather gone for 100GB capped to get maximum benefit from my integrated data sim.

In total I now have 330GB capped spread over 3 ISPs with pretty much unlimited nightsurfer data for the same as I was paying for 10MB uncapped :)

You sure?
I will agree on fibre.
Copper?? Noise factor, age of the line, etc.... 10mbps line will probably give you 7-8mbps down. Age of copper will be a determining factor....

Since the advent of ASSIA many 10Mbps lines are syncing at speeds up to 12Mbps in which case the overheads that drop your actual speed to 8 - 9Mbps when syncing at 10Mbps are cancelled out.

BTW if you're getting < 8Mbps on a 10Mbps line I doubt it's syncing at 10Mbps.

It's evident that ASSIA is not active in my area then.
Thanks for the info, very informative.
