Just dropped into the Telkom uncapped thread. Sounds like the same story to me.
I don't know, I've been following that thread but have not experienced any of those issues the others on there were experiencing, also remember it seems to be more an issue with some CAPE TOWN/Durban clients only with no complaints in JHB.As with any service you will get people not completely satisfied, best is to try it yourself. My reasoning behind choosing telkom isp is because I don't want to be shoved from pillar to post when theres a problem.I had a line fault a few months back(slow speeds) I called 10210 and the next day my line problems were solved by a technie that was dispatched the same day but due to time constraints I told him to come back the next day because he needed to change the line.
I did not have to juggle and try to figure out who the problem was and let my ISP blame telkom and telkom blame my ISP etc etc I just gave them a call ,techie dispatched and sorted me out, thats what you need in business you don't need headaches of figuring out who the problem lies with. :erm:
If you wanna call the thing uncapped, make it uncapped. Sounds to me more like the network gets overloaded because too many users get stuck on for the bandwith available. That's a real backyard way of running a business. So it gets 'shaped' if you exceed 'fair usage' on a product advertised as uncapped. Donner maar dis crap.
I agree although its still way better than the deals we were getting before mweb introduced uncapped, the reality is you can't escape this in South africa since all the isp's do this. This factor should not affect which south african isp you choose.
What's 'fair usage' on uncapped.
Telkom around 100gb on a 1mb line and double that on a 2mb line and so on.....if thats what you're asking.
Is it just bad planning, greed or poor management?
How does my ISP manage to give me 13Mbps uncapped, unthrottled, unshaped, reliable ADSL for R285/m incl line? I can get FTTx 30Mbps for R385. No threats, complaints about 'fair usage'.
Population? Not really. This ain't China, Japan, Singapore or Hong Kong. When I left ZA it was AHEAD of Thailand in ADSL, bad as it was.
I have a feeling that it will always be cheaper in smaller countries but yes we are still well over priced and it needs to come down.
