Hi guys

So in a couple of weeks I'm getting a classic mini. Insurance says I need a immobilizer in the car. Can any one recommend a place i can go get this from that knows how to fit central locking to a mini? I saw this from Autostyle (http://www.autostyle.co.za/product/18474/CentralLockingkitwithAlarmSystem/) but not sure if it would link to immobilizer. I'm located in Northern JHB

Thanks

Just out of interest, what Mini are you getting? And as a side note, I got a 1980 Clubman a few weeks back, and got insurance without a problem. Altho now that I think about it, it's only 3rd party, so not quite relevent...

I would like to know which year of manufacture/model you're getting, as reputable motor insurance companies follow the Vehicle Security System (or "VSS") guide in respect of the security system of each and every vehicle sold through a NAAMSA member in SA.

Many vehicles are on the approved list and do not required any additional security. Additional security in an already approved vehicle is wasting money and could potentially do damage to the vehicle and/or its electrical system.

Also, has your insurer specified exactly what they're looking for? To simply state the vehicle needs an immobiliser is rather vague, as I understand there are different levels of protection afforded by different immobilisers.

@Mavix Its a 1976 mini gts clubman.

I'm not sure what the specifics are. Just remember the last car my dad got that was one of the things they wanted. Will have to find out exactly what they want. The alarm and central locking is more a want though

you should chain it to a lamp post., thief can put it under his arm and walk off. immobilizer and all.

i. saw Fitty's advertising a alarm and immobilizer system with two remotes for R 600 or so.

you might have to remove the back seat to make space for the control box though.

Important to find out exactly what the insurer wants; insurers mostly have their own requirements.

Brings back memories of mates & I picking up & carrying cars around. Used to love the expressions of the owner coming out to see it on a pavement or other side of the road :D

Thanks will do. But the main intention of this thread was to find out if any one knows a place that's got at doing it on minis. Don't want someone drilling holes where ever they feel is suitable
