Junior job or senior job? Sales job involving a lot of driving? Or desk job involving no driving? We need more info.

For a company large enough to have a regional manager I doubt the car allowance will be negotiable. It will be a set amount based on your level.

Surely its an academic argument now days...? As the travel allowance would ultimately come out of the Total Cost to Company. As it is also now taxed at 80% it means that the monthly savings which were in the past are much much lower now.

Unless I have missed the boat - which may be possible.

Since a car allowance is mainly just a portion of your salary that will have different taxation, rather look at what you want to drive, the associated monthly repayment and annual KM's for business, and then negotiate a car allowance. No use asking for R4000 only to buy a car for R3000pm and drive 5000km annually for business. SARS will put a pineapple, dry, in your anal orifice.

Thanks
Shouldnt you include insurance as well, as insurance for business use is higher?

Yes. It needs to be stipulated as such for SARS though. I'd rather ask for R200, or whatever the difference between Business and Personal car insurance is, on my salary.
