Car Alternator

What about going to a scrapyard for an alternator?

Lol, dude, seriously. Just take it to an auto electrician and let him recon it for you. If you shop around you can probably get away with it between 700 - 900. It's not worth all the effort you putting into this :p

I contacted several people and they say the parts are out of stock. It will take two to three days for parts to arrive.
I can't wait that long.

Give me the number of someone you know.

Don't have a number. Guy is situated in Hercules Pretoria Backyard Auto electrician. (He did my Clubcab's alternator)

Maybe try Caelex - https://caelex.co.za/
They in Souter Street opposite the show grounds in Pretoria West

There is also a workshop next to it.

looks like the decision is made for you?

Get the arrow if you can't wait. don't get a scrapyard one, the saving is not worth it. i used to get recon starters for my old car, couldn't find new, they lasted 2 years each time. until i finally found a new one, 3 years going strong and it was only R200 more than the recon starter.

That^^.

Take Pitbull's advice. Get the cheap arrow, install and then send in the Bosch for a recon. When you het the Bosch back, stash it in the garage and wait for the Arrow to fail in a few years. Then install the Bosch.

I had the same problem once only bigger. The rectifier and diodes died in my alternator and cost way more than a normal bearing and brush repair. I got lucky and got a almost new Bosch alternator from a wrecked car for R450, and still had my old one repaired. Total cost was R1500 for the repair and the 2nd hand was R450, so I have 2 great Bosch alternators for R1950.

New one was R3500

Get the Arrow I very much doubt there is much difference. You'll also get a 1 year warranty I presume.
If you plan on driving the vehicle for another 300 000 get it reconditioned at Bosch.

Good luck getting that aircon compressor to charge a battery...

Ok guys.
I bought the cheap alternator from Midas.
It's actually a Luminous brand not the Arrow.

I'm still having the discharge light coming on.
What is going on? This goes back to my earlier post where I mention this happened coincidentally when I charged my phone in the car. Maybe it's not the alternator?

Have you been for a long drive to charge the battery back up again?

We need to test with a voltmeter.
Unfortunately we don't have one. We need to buy one.
The alternator is not powering the car. When we remove battery terminals when car is started car dies.
Forgive my English we standing in hot sun.

Never remove the battery when the car is running. You could seriously damage the electrical components from the sudden spike in power when the battery is removed, and the alternator has no current draw from the battery.
