Im looking for a car going for roughly 120k. Obviously pre-owned will be the way to go in this instance.

I am leaning towards a golf5 or a polo gti. Do you guys have any suggestions? Bare in mind im still a young man, 27 years young, so not really looking for the family type car, hutch back is fine, 5 door, elec window, sunroof, etc etc

LOL. I'd say 27 is getting old. You should have your family and kids by now.

I bought a 2009 Polo 1.6 Comfort line for R110k with 60k on the clock. Car goes great and the consumption is very good. the 1.6 is a good compromise between performance and economy.

2009 Polo 1.6, I will be sure to do some research on the car. I have to admit, I'm not too clued up when it comes to cars.

get a 2010 Hyundai i20 1.6.
You'll should be able to get one with way under 40000 mileage.

1.6, 1.4, 1.2, 0.8, 0.2, 0.0000... What's the difference, in the end its still only a Hyundai...

73Kw vs 95Kw, that is the difference. I would rather a Hyundai or a Kia over most other car brands in the Sub 200k category.

Don't buy a boring car - life is too short for that.

For R120k you can get this : http://www.autotrader.co.za/used-ca...pretoria-fpa-8a6adfae3a6eb780013a77feeb356e6f

Take into account these cars will have the remainder of the maintenance plan on it, so you score about 30,000km / 1.5 years of free maintenance.

The korean manufacturers offer far greater value for money as compared to the usual japanese and german offerings.
or YOLO, and go for something french or italian. They are selling for peanuts on the second hand market

I'm also looking for a car in that price range at the moment, I like the astra H 1.8 with about 60 000 KM they go for about
R 110000. I'd love to get the GSi astra but its so difficult to find a nice one.
See this 2006 1.8 Astra
Its a pretty quick car and very comfortable though I know it is a bit old.

For about R140k I am looking at a Chevrolet Captiva...going to need a bigger car soon. Around 80k-120k on the clock. Or go demo - the new model is pretty awesome looking.

I would not go for a performance Opel second hand, don't get me wrong they are awesome cars and if they are looked after diligently they won't let you down, but OPC and GSI models tend to get abused. Astra H is a solid car and it is actually quite nice that they are not too mainstream in SA cause that means you can get a good one at a great price. Personally I would go for a Corsa D, they have exceptional quality and reliability and I am still really happy with my 2010 model. If you are not that fixed on getting an Opel you should also try out the Sonic, it is one of the most underrated Korean cars on our roads and looks way better than the Rio or i20.
