Car audio system, any suggestion?

Got some cheap Chinese crap in my car at the moment, not working most of the time. Car is 1999 Polo Playa, 1 out of the 6 speaker works :sick:, 2 in the boot fell off (not sure how but the 4 plastic poles are not holding them).

Think the speakers still works just not connected ATM.

Budget R1000-1500. Want to have CD+AUX in (USB if possible too), not sure if I should replace the speakers too? Friend can help me to install and re-wire.

Any suggestion on brand/model, combination? Not looking for any heavy base buff buff.:D

Checked hificorp/autostyle online already.

Just wanted something to work properly, and I can always put in a few hundred to get some entry level speakers later.

So head unit, any suggestions? ;)
 
Damn - can't look up any here at the office - all the sites blocked :mad:

But I've had my Sony headunit for about 2 years and not given me any headaches.
Don't have the USB version though, but my AUX works just fine - songs from my Omnia play just fine.

Another brand may be JVC, but I'd personally go with a Sony head unit.
Soz I can't put out any real recommendations for ya :o
 
Thanks guys, any real differences between the different models in Sony, besides the price and Aux/USB. Maybe the output power? But difference in sound quality??

There won't be a difference in the sound quality, man. Those features ARE the difference. Just compare the specs.
 
Sony CDX-GT430

CD/MP3/WMA/USB/AUX

Has a nice quickbrowse feature too where you can use the rotary knob to scroll through mp3 folders and files. :D
 
Got the Sony CDX GT-430U from Game yesterday afternoon and spent 2 hours just now installed it on my car, first time and what an achievement (got to figure out the messy wiring). Happy!
 
I've done a few sound installs, my personal favorite head-unit so far is JVC, they have plenty of features for a decent price, Sony in my experience was lacking in that it's expensive and has no impressive features.

After that I'd take Pioneer and if you have too much money the king of the hill is Alpine, they are incredibly expensive tho.

Speakers Infinity Kappa's, JBL or Kicker, split systems only, 6x9 are stupid, it's like a sub crossed with a speaker, being neither it's a POS, you can also take a look at sound competitions the proper competitors won't use them, neither in SPL or SQ. Subs JL or JBL, Pioneer if you're on a budget.

Amps I usually go for whatever I can afford, not the greatest strategy but if you want something decent RockFord Fosgate is easily the best.

If you're not going for a amp, then get a Rockford Fosgate headunit they have pretty powerful HU's (in terms of RMS output) so you can wire a split-system directly to it but if you buy something less powerful then stick to co-axle speakers since they are usually bit more efficient and less hassle to install, split system is wasted on a HU they just don't put out enough power for split systems. Especially Infinity Kappa's (split system) they are rated for around 100W RMS upward so using them without a amp is a total waste.

Do you perhaps have a copy of the manual? I bought one secondhand and have no clue how to tune in programmes etc.
