Car battery replacement Question

Who the hell goes to the stealership for a battery ?!?!?
Only dumb people!!
Oh wait @neoprema as well :X3:
I if were OP, which i basically am, cause I too have that lifestyle, car runs maybe once every 2 weeks.
Hooked up to a Ctek most of that time.

Put the quick connect cable on, so you don't even have to open the bonnet to connect the charger.
Where do you locate the quick coupler so that you don't need to open the bonnet?

You’d had to go underneath which is probably more of a pain.

Most cars you can charge via the 12v sockets though which is much less painful, generally only useful for trickle charging not a completely dead battery.

Not necessarily, what is wrong with putting in somewhere in front? Many cars have slots around the grille or vents where you can mount it.

Unlikely to be any more accessible than just opening the bonnet.

Also much more risk of it being clogged up with road crap, although most do have a cover/plug which in turn makes it even more complicated to operate.

Far simpler to just use the lighter socket.

I've always taken my cars only to the manufacturer for anything they need. They know best what to do, and if its not done properly they are big enough to make sure the problems are fixed. That said i usually only keep my cars while they're under maintenance plans, but some I have not. Yes you pay a little more but it works out better in the end.
If the car is not very high tech, just go to the closest knowledgeable battery retailer.

Hell, even for our 2017 Tiguan and my friend's 2016 A3, I just picked up a replacement Varta and reprogrammed the BCM for the new battery with VCDS.

Hmmm

My last battery was in my Volvo before i sold it. It was the accessory/start-stop battery so its small, the dealer only wanted R 6600 including installation. it JUST missed the warranty period.... I'm glad it wasn't the main battery cause they said that thing is like R11k installed. I guess with the quality comes price.

That pricing is ridiculous  They are probably just Varta's or similar which you can buy cheaper yourself, not sure if the Volvo's need coding done like VAG cars though.

Only?

I paid R5 500 for a replacement Varta AGM battery (95 Ah, 850 A) for my Jaguar XF, at an authorised Varta dealer. No way I was going to go to Jaguar for a battery. Coded it myself too.

My cable fits nicely between the gap, when the bonnet is closed.
In the gap between the bonnet and the fender?!
You leave your quick coupler stashed there permanently?
If so how do you plug it in and out when you need to use it

Yes. No pinching, more luck than design. My optimate came with one quick disconnect cable which is wired to my car. At one stage, I was driving once every two weeks or so. The connector I tuck in my engine bay. Dont use it as much these days as I drive daily.

It came in the box of my Ctek, I have not wired mine in, but it's just ring terminals, you can just extend it (fused) and put it somewhere you can easily access it.

Where though, it's not easy to find a safe/secure easily accessible location without opening the bonnet.

Are you referring to just placing the cable there whilst charging or you leave the quick connector permanently lodged between the channel between the bonnet and fender to enable you to charge the battery without ever opening the bonnet?

Nope, the quick connect is tucked away by the battery when not in use. I opened the bonnet, connect and close the bonnet. Few seconds at most. I want to buy another quick connect for my wifes car.
