Car battery service

Today I took the wife's Astra in, it would not start yesterday, I was thinking it is the starter or a relay. Took it to diesel electric. They phone and told me it is the battery. They quoted me R1200 for a new one. I declined the quote and took the car to a private battery place. I ask them to replace the battery. The ask me why, is it dead. Then they test it and it tested fine. With me it starts every time, but with the wife it would not start twice. So I nearly spend R1200 today.

I may be wrong. But doesn't the fuel pump prime when you open the driver door. You hear a very faint whining noise when the driver door is open.

Mine does as described above, key in, a click and a buzz and you good to go, might be different on others.
