I recently had a problem with starting my car (Toyota Etios Hatch 1.5 XI) which happened whenever I switch it off after each journey. I stopped 4 times and got jumpstarted 4 times. The last jump start I went straight to Battery center. They checked my battery and confirmed that the battery is dead. I was charged R1467 for a new Ray Nano F616C. As a lady, I requested time to call my husband if the price is reasonable. I couldn't get hold of him. Tried his brother who said batteries cost around that price. The following day I got into the office where the problem started, my male colleagues asked me how I managed to fix the problem. When I told them everyone said I got ripped off because my car is too small. I feel bad. Do you guys think the battery is overpriced?

The 616 is a 38amp hour battery, that is in simpler terms the figure that tells you how long your battery would last if you left your lights on by mistake, the higher this figure the bigger the battery. For example your money can easily buy you a 60 amp hour battery that would last much longer I'm case there's something that was left on in your car.

In short, yes you paid too much for the battery, it's a quality battery though but still not worth that much.

On average that is not a bad price. Some batteries do cost more than other but that depends on the brand and warranty offered. Go and check with the toyota agents and compare prices. Agents can easily charge you +R4000 for the same battery but with their brand sticker on it.

A 60 Ah battery would probably not have fit into the car, the battery compartments are usually a snug fit.

Just paid 1250 for a 652 at tiger wheel and tyre

Exide, cresta.
I won't touch Willard again. They fail just out of warranty like clockwork

Just because someone robs you of R4000 does not necessarily means the one who robs you of a R1000 is less of a criminal. Both prices are not right. She should have paid way less than R1000 for that battery.

I always use Errols Batteries as a quick reference for pricing.

Makes no sense to buy from them due to shipping costs but good way to get prices.

Yes I did

Yoh they are heartless they ripped you off and took your battery also.

Usually if they take your old battery you get a discount.

Anywhere don't worry we learn from our mistake next time you will know, I also don't know much about cars I once paid R650.00 for a headlight globe. Later discovered the very same globe cost less than R50.00 at Middas.
