Car Chargers

This isn't really about PC Hardware, but it is about devices... if it's in the wrong place, forgive me

My question is: are usb car chargers interchangeable? I have a car charger that came with my TomTom, but can't seem to find the one for my phone. Since they both charge via a usb plug, can I use the TomTom charger for the phone?

I know it's not a good idea for wall chargers, but you can use the same usb cable and port to charge from your pc - so where do car chargers fit into this range?

I use my Garmin GPS car charger to charge my cellphone all the time

Works perfectly fine.

Check the voltage and current requirements of both devices. If similar for both it should be fine. The battery charge management is mostly done on the device side rather than in the charger these days so it's a lot safer than it used to be.

Yes, it it's USB it should be 5V.

Yeh like kayvee said check power ratings to insure that the charger can supply the required current and voltage.
