Car insurance

i finally got a quote from Zurich for R580 fully comprehensive... im pretty happy with that. Car and insurance both on my name.

I'm also with Zurich via a broker. Moved from Outsurance. They were expensive, though the service was decent, imo. Zurich is about 1/3 the price. Admittedly, I have other stuff on the policy as well, and it may be affecting the individual costs.

Im planning on moving my sister's car, which will see the cost drop by about 55% if I do that.

try a company called New National Assurance. they have a couple of brokers. at your age and profile, you should get cheap insurance from them

Discovery are as at 01 June 2011 going to be in the short-term insurance market. I am currently a Discovery Health/Life/CreditCard member, so it makes sense me for to at least consider their offer. I still need to understand their DQ (driver quotient) points system and the associated benefits, but will definitely give them a call next month for a comparative quote - I am currently with Outsurance.

and whatever you do...don't go for Outsurance ...

if you add your house contents insurance etc...you normally get a lower quote too

If their life and health options are anything to go by I shudder to think what complicated beasts their short term policies are going to be like.

I once got a quote on my old Velociti 1.6 for R2300!!!! That was more than my premium. I told the sales guy that I would rather buy a second golf and have it standing at the house for when they steal my car than pay them that much. It is insane. Was an OUTsurance quote. Now I'm with budget and paying R900 for my Type R. Still high I think, but alot better.

Guess it all depends on your age mate. You should try Indwe, they used to be very good and fairly priced....

use two comparisons

I just bought a cash and i need insurance. I am a first time insurer and my premium is sky high like R1300pm. I really dont want to pay this much. What are my other options here?

Even if the car is on my name can i insure it on my parents name or something?

Hey,

Regardless of who's name you put the insurance on (Of course make sure this is legal and want cause your policy to be void - although I doubt it), I strongly advise always comparing quotes with a few companies. Be sure to use the same basic details when you ask for the quote so that you aren't comparing apples and oranges. The 3 best ways to compare quotes are:
- fill in your details on the form they have here - http://carinfo.co.za/hippo-insurance/ - and you will get about 5 free insurance quotes from the telesure group (dial direct, aa insurance, auto and general, budget insurance, unity insurance and a few others)
- Contact a broker (be sure to ask him with which companies he works with as brokers have connections usually with only 1-3 companies).
- fill in the form here and you will get a quote from king price who are pretty decent according to the review I read and the hello peter comments - http://carinfo.co.za/king-price-insurance/

20 minutes of your time will save you hudreds or thousands of Rands a year.

Good luck

Insurance is a ripoff IMO.
I've been contemplating dropping to 3rd party fire and theft as soon as my car is paid off.
R920 vs R130 ...

Discuss this with a broker before you decide on this course of action.
I refer to the Power Report article in the Sunday Times (dated 14th July 2013) of an owner who had this insurance and was involved in an accident. The other party had comprehensive insurance and failed to stop at a stop street.
When this poor fellow approached the other party's insurance company they refused to pay and insisted that he was partially to blame.
