Hey Everyone,

I have a 1998 Hyundai Accent with 92000Km's on the clock, but I have recently come into some issues. :(

2 weeks ago, my indicator stopped flickering when I was at a red light, I didn't think much of it and it didn't happen again that day. Next day on my way to work it happens once, and since then it got worse, it would flicker once then stop, the lever would still be down/up but no lights flash. Now the indicator has stopped working completely, I am scared to think how much it will cost to repair, has anyone else had the issue?

Another thing, my radiator cooling fan has become intermittent due to a loose input wire, has anybody had any experience with replacing these and how much they cost?

Any replies are appreciated.

It's likely a faulty/dead fuse or indicator bulb. Take it to your local mechanic. It should not be much cash to fix them up. Around R100 if I was to hazard a guess.

Radiator cooling fans are common in most motor spares shops. Give them a call and find out how much they cost.

Thanks for the reply.

I thought that too, but when I turn the alarm on and off the indicators do flash, would that be fuse related in that case?

As for the fan, thanks, I always thought they were car specific and hard to find.

Serious answer, give the dash just above your speedo cluster a good whack next time it happens. I mean a solid palm down on the bastard. It'll start working.

Are you sure the indicator has stopped working or that the dash has stopped indicating that it is, well, indicating?

I have checked that too, no light emitting from the indicators, also the hazards stopped working too.

I'll do so, thanks. It has stopped working completely so I will try it after work.

An auto-electrician will sort out your woes snappy. Those items aren't very expensive.

If that's the case, it sounds like it's the relay to be honest.

It's the relay for sure.

I have a similar fault on my old bakkie. If i turn the hazards on, the indicators don't work until i turn the car off and then back on. Funny hey!

The relay is very cheap to replace.
Go to an auto-electrician, not a mechanic.

it'll be under R500 including parts and labour (1 hour labour). Pretty sure.

Thanks for the replies, everyone!

I had an engineer I work with look at it this afternoon, he also said it was a relay, whenever he knocked it, it would flicker for a short while then die again.

Thanks for the help! I will have it looked at this weekend.

Told you the knock would sort it out  Luckily a cheap fix.
