Good Afternoon All,

I wonder if someone can help me. My gran passed away about 2 years back and left behind her vehicle. My father(her son) asked me to keep the vehicle on my premises and to use it as I will. I use it every day and her car license expired almost a year ago, we went to courts ect to try and get her licensed renewed or even transferred onto my name but to no avail. Between home affairs and the license department we just cant seem to come right. Does anyone have a possible solution for me, getting really desperate now

What do they say is the hold up?

If she passed away, then the car is part of her estate. You need to find out what is happening with the estate.
Was the car mentioned in her will? Have you seen the will, what does it say?
Who is handling her estate?

My dad has the same issue. He's had the vehicle now for about 10 years and drive it without the license being renewed. Just too much of an issue even if you do all that is needed. He said he'll just drive it as is. Not planning on selling it so can't be arsed . Sorry I can't help you, just adding to how hard it is to get a vehicle out of an estate onto the name of the new owner.

Have you tried doing a change of ownership? Not sure how this works with someone that is no longer around though.

Pretty much this. The car goes to whomever it was left to in her will. If there is no will, it needs to be split up, depending on the situation with her immediate family. Is her estate already wound up?

that's where the problem comes in, the first rejected it as her death certificate stated she was married, when in fact she was widowed, so now waiting on home affairs to rectify her marriage status, been waiting 8 months for this. This country makes it very hard for a person to do things the "legal" way hence me asking for tips, advice or any solution hahah

Go to your local licensing office and see if you can find these guys that queue for you and ask them to have it done, just transfer from her name to your name, should be easy enough for them to do.Will need her ID also.
