Car 'mangled' as bus allegedly flees collision scene

Mbombela - Three people have been injured after a vehicle and bus collided on Vandyksdrift Road in Witbank, Mpumalanga.

"Shortly before 04:00 on Saturday, paramedics from ER24 and other services arrived on the scene where they found the severely mangled wreck of a light motor vehicle," ER24 spokesperson Werner Vermaak said.

The driver of the car was found with serious issues, and the jaws of life was needed to free him.

Two other occupants were treated on the scene for moderate injuries.

"It is understood that the vehicle crashed into the back of a bus. However, when paramedics arrived, the bus was not found on the scene," Vermaak added.

Local authorities attended the scene and will investigate the cause of the collision, he added.

The blind one who drove into the back of a bus?

There are a lot if possibilities where the bus might not even know about the accident till possibly later when seeing damage. I was rear ended by a car in my car, while I was stationary and my first thought was "why did my cars gears work, something wrong with my clutch?" Till I looked into the rear view mirror.

How? Busses don't exactly stop suddenly...

The bus driver is a fkin coward for the hit & run...but something tells me the accident wasn't the bus drivers fault.

Hopefully they buy that story, leaving the scene of an accident where someone was injured is a crime.

And at the time, did they need to free the other driver with jaws of life?

Based on the fact that it was hit from behind?

There are many situations in which it could have been the bus driver's fault. eg. turns into the road with complete disregard for what traffic is approaching. In fact I see busses and taxis do this one all the time.

Assuming there was even a bus involved. The driver may have just been driving like a ****.

Yes. 10,000 kg busses don't do surprise stops as a rule.

Or put differently - if that big a*ss bus managed to deaccelerate faster then you then maybe you weren't fk'in paying attention.

There are many fringe cases maybe...

Look...I agree that a big percentage of accidents are "sht happens" territory...but this isn't one of them. You don't rear-end a slow & predictable bus unless you fk'd something up.
 
Accident occurred sometime before 4:00am, therefore it was dark. Possibly the bus has poor lights and wasn't easily visible. No street lights, dark night - easy to hit a poorly lit vehicle. Bus could also have been stopped illegally on the road for a pee break/roadside testicular device agent.

Many scenarios come to mind, but an alert driver should have been able to see and avoid this.
 
what type of road was it and where?

were they drunk?

did the bus reverse into them?

did the bus pull out in front of them?

the fleeing makes a person think the bus driver was in the wrong.
 
Could be the bus driver pulled in front of them. On Thursday my car was in a position of being mangled when a bus driver suddenly pulled into the spot I was driving without even indicating. Had to break hard so he could drive the bus in front rather than over my car. Luckily there was a big gap to the vehicle behind me.
