CAR OR HOUSE ? ?

He's not really going to be able to afford a house payment on a GTI installment

FIRST, A NEW KEYBOARD WHERE THE CAPS LOCK KEY IS NOT BUSTED .........

ROFLMAO:D

Hehehe, you guys are funny, but I guess if we all put something together we can get Magangat a new keyboard. He just spent all his pocket money on buying bumper wax for his Golf so he is a bit broke at the moment :p

LOL:D

If you have the cash buy a house. You can get some good deals at the moment if you can put down a big dep.

Exceptionally stupid question....There is an obvious answer...
but if ur a petrol head, grab urself a car with a great residual, rent your place. Lose value over time and waste ur money away on stupid oversized bumpers and neon lights. Dont be surprised when ur 40, living in a 1 bed room flat and ur friends are no longer impressed that ur uno turbo dropped an ST

you have to go for the house, cars aren't assets, all they do is eat money, a house on the other hand appreciates (generally) in value and once paid off is yours forever, you can keep it in your family and it will generate perpetual income forever basically (via rent)

Yea but if he's already paying R3000.00pm on his current car - and the GTI is R5000.00 he's paying R2000.00pm extra ....

What bond is he going to get for R2000.00pm? R150,000.00 perhaps?

Also, everyone has different situation so it's very difficult to answer anyway.

exactly the point everyone needs to take note , everyone has a different situation.

LOL! Classic...and so true :D

hahaha. it amazes me. why must i be the norm. buy a house, a car is not an asset... blah blah blah, and what's wrong with someone who is 40 and living in a 1 bedroom flat? his chose to live there. weather he likes it or not that’s his problem.:P

it depends from person to person:) like i said before what's ideal for you might not be ideal for me

But if you are to save that R2000 pm for 54 months you'll have at least R108k before interest... which should help nicely as well to reduce your monthly payments on a house...

Amusing, its this kind of thinking that causes tons of bank repo...
I upgrade my car because i can afford the extra R1500-2k a month...sweet..
oh no but wait...my insurance just went up R600, and my petrol another R600. I manage to hit a pavement, now i need a new mag and tyre (which on my old car cost R800), i now fork out R2.5k....u get the idea.
Its not just more payments, its the maintenance etc that also goes up.

I am also extremely tempted to get myself a banger of a car, an although i mock slightly, i actually understand the problem. Whats waiting a few more years to get a house? why not enjoy a car now before the sun whacks my bald spots...But i dont, probably because i dont have signing rights to my money, my g/f does...

No mate, only your WIFE should have signing rights to your cash...that's unless you've got kids with your "girlfriend" and have been living together for an extended time...she no longer is your girlfriend and legally is considered your common law wife

Back to the topic: Its always nice thinking that you can buy a new car and say, pay an installment of about R3000 a month but what another poster said is that you always have to consider the hidden costs that comes with a new car.

I've had so many friends who got burnt with new cars due to increased insurance premiums and thing like maintenance. You end up regretting your new car within six months.

Common law wife/marriage doesn't apply in South Africa?

im waiting for a clever jack to mention a motor home ,

do you have to apply for house finance or car finance if you are buying one of those ?
