Car original registration papers

Ok, I can't find original post asking about getting a copy of my original car registration papers. Thank you to the person who suggested I contact Wesbank. I just received a Twitter message from Wesbank saying they can give me the original papers for R75 bucks. It beats the 150 charge and standing in line at the traffic department.
 
I am just confused as to where they get original papers for your car? A bank has no business having such documents, you business with them ends as soon as they hand you the papers displaying them as title holder, under what circumstances should they be in possession of this document after you have done the change of ownership? Unless you never went through this process when the car was paid off?

Tanks that's what I also believed. I just took a chance and asked Wesbank on their twitter team account. The confirmed that can, not sure I believe them yet, not at all. But they confirmed they told me the process and instructions on how to do it. I'm not in step or in the process but not holding my breath,
 
It's fairly simple: If the title holder of the vehicle has never supplied you (the owner) with the documents before, then they can do so now, once, upon your request. Otherwise they have to apply for a reissue of the document from the authorities, but they can only do so if they are still the title holder.

So the papers has been with the bank all along and you never did the change of ownership when you paid off the car?
 
Nope. Been driving the same car for nearly 9 years now. Was going to look for another, newish, used model, like last one. But then the fkn virus made me an unemployment statistic.
 
I got a good trade in on my bakkie 6 years ago. Bought my Hyundai i10 for cash.
Now I can't find the registration papers.
Any way to get them without visiting the Licence Department?
