Over the last few months I have spent a fortune on trying to fix my Ford Bantam.

The car leaks oil. I have taken it back to the first mac 3 times but the problem persists.
On Saturday I took it for wheel alignment only to be told there is a problem with the steering column and they could not do the alignment.

Does anyone here have the reference of a good, reliable motor mechanic in Cape town who can fix the car once and for all and not charge me an arm and a leg?

There's a policy now with mechs.
There's always an additional problem over and above the one you take the vehicle in for.
And even that problem never gets addressed.

Where is the oil leaking from
Or are you losing oil?

First the mechanic told me it was the gaskets. He charged a fortune to replace these and also done a major service on the car.
Next day, oil on the paving. I took it back but the problem persists.

What's the policy for mechs? Every time I take the car back, I have to pay because it's some or the other problem causing the leak.

My brother was going through the same thing as you and ended up taking the car to about 6 different people before finding a place in Brakenvel (Or however you spell it) that sorted it (still slight leak but manageable. We also changed his head gasket recently and that seemed to have fixed it, still running it to make sure.

I personally always take my car to the Audi Specialists in Montague Gardens, they are a bit pricey but very good workmanship from them, I even find myself taking the car to them for stuff I could do myself as I know they will take very good care of the car.

I have found that brand specialists tend to do the best job, also the same experience with the Subaru specialists in Paarden Eiland.

EDIT: I like to use what paper to trace an oil leak, start from under the car, letting it stand for a while and work your way higher until you find the culprit.
