Car problems (possibly haunted car)

About a year ago it started to do this weird thing where the car would start and then die immediately. After about two or three cycles of this it would start normally and off I'd go. Now for the past 6 months or so it's been getting progressively worse to the point where my car won't start sometimes. It feels as if the car is trying really hard to turn over but it just won't. If I leave the car for a couple of hours I sometimes get rewarded with a nice clean start. I put in a new battery...no difference. Neither of the two keys (primary and spare) seem to make a difference either.

I took the car to an auto-electrician and the car starts perfectly with no issues at all, so I leave the car there for a couple of days. After 3 days the guy tells me to come and fetch my car because he can't diagnose anything when it work perfectly.

I took my car to the dealer last week to get it sorted out, but the damn car refuses to act up in any way and starts time after time. I left my car at dealer for more than a week and they still couldn't get it to not start. They also reprogrammed the keys just in case. I fetch my car yesterday and lo and behold, this afternoon it refuses to start at all.

I don't know what to do anymore :(.

I would take a thick lead from the battery direct to the starter motor to eliminate the solonoid as a problem, but don't try it if you don't know what you're doing.

What noise does the car make when you try to start it? Does the engine turn over? Or is there a clicking noise?

Does that car have an automatic choke? Perhaps it is stuck in the wrong position, making it difficult to start when it is cold and easier when it is warm. I am just brainstorming here.

If the car has an airflow sensor somewhere in one of the Air hoses, it might be dirty and sending incorrect info to the ECU. I had this on my car recently. A quick spray of carb cleaner and being left to dry might help. It is very sensitive so try not to touch the contacts.

Do you live near the Sentech tower?

Found the problem. The battery on the remote was dead causing the immobilizer to go into lock mode. Replaced the battery, had the key reprogrammed and that solved the problem.

glad you managed to find the reason for the haunting.

It sounds like a faulty ECU

OP what car?

this, had this happen to me on the freeway died quite suddenly,
(glad to know I am not Crazy:p)

question, when you turn the key do you notice any lights NOT come on?

thats the only odd thing with my picanto did,
and did the run around to auto electricians, kia and 3 diffrent ECU's

Uhm...how did you know it was a Picanto?? It's a powder blue 2006 Picanto 3.0 GL model. The fancy one with the faux velvet seats and radio/cd player, no a/c though.
