After the latest trip to Cape Town I need to look at alternate options. Driving becoming a bore and expensive.

What tips and tricks do you have when it comes to car rentals to bring price down.

In my case this would most likely be for 3/4 people in CPT or DBN for a period of around 7+ days and may include 2000km(touring along the N7 in CPT)

If Driving is boring I doubt any tips will help. Rather Uber

If you happen to spill a fairly large quantity of blood all over the dash, seats, carpet and boot, clean it immediately with lots of hot water and hotel soap, shampoo and conditioner. Follow up with meths, scrub with a nailbrush (from Spar). Concentrate on the porous surfaces first. Don't wait until the following morning, it will be far too difficult to get out. Non porous surfaces like glass, paintwork and hard plastic can and should be cleaned again the following morning before returning the vehicle. Saves you a mint on valet costs.

Somewhat related, but always keep your receipt when refueling before dropping the car off. I've had First Choice hit me with a penalty for 'not filling the car'. They charged me for 5 or so litres of fuel, plus a 'refilling fee' until I sent them the receipt showing that I had filled up about 2km from the airport.
