Ok so i'm trying to hire a car for this weekend. I've made a booking and everything seems fine except for 1 small problem....

Car rental companies require a deposit that needs to be held on your credit card at the the time of collection. Problem is, Avis wants R5000 deposit. Europcar wants R3500. Now I suspect that all car companies have this policy but the thing is, I DON'T have that much on my credit card!!

Do you guys know of any way around this? or any company that doesnt require a deposit.

Any help would be appreciated :)

Rent a bike?
I don't think the money is actually deducted from the account. It's held back to cover things like fines and filling up the tank.

Strange, I picked up a car from Avis this week and the deposit was R500, not R5,000.
Yeah well apparently the weekend rate is different.

WEEKEND RENTALS:
No additional drivers will be permitted on weekend rentals countrywide.
Please Note: A minimum authorisation amount of R5000 is required for all
weekend rentals and is payable by credit card.

This really sucks!!

You're right, that does suck!

Have you tried Budget Car Rental?

If you have it. Make a cash deposit into your card. Withdraw the cash when you return the car.

I'snt the isurance higher on weekend rentals, so they cover your liability with the card. Maybe thats the reason. - Not sure - just guessing.
