Firstly please excuse my ignorance in this topic, but there are just too many options out there for me to make a good decision.

In a nutshell:
I want a MP3 player for my car that can broadcast to my existing radio.
I dont want some unbelievably massive disk device - about 4 GBs should be max. I dont need or care about video, bu I want decent quality?
R2000 and less is my budget.

I believe the iPod nano with itrip is an option - in this case what is the latest version etc. Also I believe there is now an iTrip that plugs into your ciggy lighter for charging etc.

Any suggestions/hints etc would be appreciated.

Thanks

dude a cheaper option would be to get a radio that has a usb port, buy a 4 gig usb stick and use that setup

put your mp3s on your usb stick and bam :)

i have that setup and it works like a charm

I hear you, but the car (wifes) has a radio in it already - the type that comes with the new VW polo classics - but with a single CD loader.
Plus I need to get a xmas present!

yup so did mine

if you look at the price of an ipod nano, my option is by far the cheapest

yea but if you dont want to go that route i have no other advice to offer :)

my buddie has an ipod setup and it sometimes takes up to 10 minutes for the radio to read the ipod but maybe its just his radio

I have an Itrip for my nano, but I never use it because its crappy, ended up giving it to a friend.

It gives really poor battery life, less than half of normal time,
Poor sound quality, worse than listening to a radio station
and as you drive around you will find that radio stations interfere with your signal.

That was my experience with the griffen sled type iTrip for the 1st nano, using it in my corsa lite with the standard head unit which is very good at picking up radio stations, even out in the country.

In the house it wasn’t to bad, but don’t expect more than 5m range and to be moving it around.

The new Polo's factory head units can play mp3 cds, why not burn a few or get the ipod and use the head phones :p

I am using the Macally FM cup which sits in your cup holder.

It works very well and the FM tuner overpowers local interference most of the time. The only issue I have is that it is a bit tough to change tracks as it is below you, but if you are listening to playlists or are on shuffle then that should be an issue.

It also depends where the cup holder in the polo is.

There is also other ones that plug into the car charger and I think these are the best bet because they don't try to conserve battery life and charge the iPod at the same time.
This = a fully charged iPod all the time and a much stronger signal.
