Stupid question. I have a radio/cd built in to the dash that cannot be removed as it is part of the dash. The sound is cr@p and I checked my speakers today and they are of poor quality. If I replace these with good quality speakers, will it improve the sound? Is the quality of sound with the radio or the speakers?

You need an amplifier ... and for cars with built in radios, you'll need a line out converter - as they generally have no RCA's :(

If you don't want to run a external amplifier you can buy any speakers that'll fit and have the same resistance (IE. ohm rating), watt rating should be the same or better. If can't identify the Ohm rating you can use a multimeter but I haven't really seen speakers without those specs printed on them.

What car and what radio. Most have pre amp outs just not that you can see ;). and all radios are removable. PM me if you dont want to tell what make/model in public.

It is a smart forfour. It has 2 speakers in front and 2 dummies at the back. Won't even attempt to open dashboard. Faaar too complicated. Front speakers cheap 5 ohm.
