This morning when I arrived at work and reversed into my parking spot I was suddenly enveloped in a white smoke cloud. My car left a thick stripe of oil on the paving. Car is a 1.3 Ford Ikon 2005 (that means its a bantam engine).

Where I had stopped waiting for the gate to open there is no oil on the paving. When in idle no new oil comes out.

What is the likely issue here?

First thing to check is where the oil is coming from - is it coming from the box and dripping or is it coming from the engine and dripping on to the exhaust?

If it's engine on to exhaust, that could account for the smoke which you wouldn't have noticed until you were reversing.

Difficult without being able to see the car.

There was no smoke while waiting for parkings gate to open (no oil either) or when sitting still for many minutes at a time on Marlboro offramp.

Oil must be coming from somewhere around here on engine (that's the back at the bottom), nothing around spark plugs and probably leaking on exhaust yes, I'll be better able to check during tea break at 11, engine was too hot earlier.:

I had this the other day with my own car I'll admit... the oil filter came loose.
Check that first.

If you cant find a leak then check if the dipstick pops out when the engine is running.

Cool, let us know. I do lots of mech on cars all the time, because I refuse to support the stealerships.

Also thinking of the oil filter. If my orientation is correct regarding the above engine, and the oil filter do sit on the left-hand side of the car/engine, then the oil "decoration" on the pavement is aligned correctly for an oil filter.

Hope it is just a loose oil filter and not a popped oil filter...

Oil filter is fine and dandy, oil level just below top notch whereabouts it was when I checked last week. Does not leak when idling. Manifold is blocking me from seeing where the leakage originated.

Car was serviced end Jan. 5000km later now.

Will upload photo a bit later.

Best pic I could get at 11, will try to move car now now so I get better photos:

Gmail taking forever to send the photos from my phone to work PC :-/

^ that accounts for the white smoke and the oil trial

-- but the mystery is where did the oil came from...

Didn't you drive over a small oilfilled container or something else with oil by chance and burst it, spewing the oil over the exhaust?
