Hi,

So, my brother is turning 18 and my dad needs to get him a car to drive long distances such as to cape town and back (he is going to study @ Stellenbosch).

My mom drives a 2007 Peugeot 307 1.6 HDI with just more than 100 000km on the clock and I drive a 2008 Daihatsu Sirion 1.3 with just under 60 000km. Both cars is paid off. He proposed that we swap cars, I take the Peugeot and my bro the Daihatsu, and then he buys my mom another car.

Obviously the Peugeot is worth around 30k more than my car so I am really happy with that, my only problem is that the car is a french (I think :O). I can sell it and buy something else, but the car drives so lekker :D

I am also not sure about the reliability past 100 000km... So do I keep it or sell it :wtf: Also worth mentioning that my dad bought the car new, and that it hasn't had any accidents.

Just enjoy the car.

Agreed! Had a 2003 2.0hdi a couple years ago, thoroughly enjoyed the car tbh! Sold her for 2 reasons, firstly cos I was offered a fantastic deal on a C200k, second was that I needed a bigger car in any case for the growing family. But never had any issues with the pug!

And yes, it is french, and it has its quirks (like, how can they put the bonnet release on the passenger side of the car??), but you've got a good engine that shoudlnt give any problems unless you dont service it properly. WOudlnt advise going to anyone but the agents for that.

Mhh. Maybe I should try to find out what parts tend to go, and search for a warranty that covers it. Cant find the 307 HDI on a kinsey report :(

Keep it. A bird in the hand is worth more than one in the bush

That Pug is still relatively new and I don't see why it won't last for 100,000km more provided that you look after it.

Ouch I don't want to be a student these days.

With the petrol price increases it is going to cost you cover R2K in petrol from Pretoria to Cpt. Tolls probably another R200. Add to that car wear and tear.

Haha Roux. Waited a while for you to comment. Thought you were gonna tell me to sell it and buy an Opel. :D

Thought about it yesterday evening, and I will definitely keep the car. It drives awesomely and it is super light on fuel.

Last question: Is it worth getting a warranty from miway for around R200 per month?

MiWarranty Booklet

In the cover table on page 8 the car would fall into group C from next year. Miway is the only place that i could find that covers the Clutch plate AND the Pressure plate (List of items covered on page 7), and if I am correct those things tend to be expensive on any car.

Yea that sucks for him. At least I don't drive far to work. About 10km per trip. But still tend to do about 1000km per month. :erm:

:p I actually cycle through the university campus twice daily - and the best method of transport is just that - a bicycle! We have no parking here in Stellenbosch because of the students and traffic really is a nightmare. In the mornings it is faster for me on the bike (20 minutes) to work than in the car (30 minutes). So for moving about in Stellenbosch I highly recommend getting one.

But would you cycle from PTA to CPT :D :D :D , and I don't think my bro would fancy the idea of a bicycle in any way:whistle:. Any advice on the warranty?

Yes, definitely a bit too far to cycle :p
OT, does he have a place to stay? We have a few flats on campus and I think one of them might be open next year.

About the warranty, those short term warranties do not cover everything and normally only pay out a fraction of the cost you claim. I would only take it when buying a 2nd hand car and you want to make sure the gearbox or engine does not blow up within two years of buying it. That being said if you think it is a possibility then its up to you if you want to get it.
